Will the Anti Smoking Law in Britain Force Bingo Enthusiasts On to the Net?
An abundance has been reported in the press not long ago regarding the bingo industry being hurt as a result of the cigarette ban in the UK. Conditions have grown so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has asked for massive aid to help keep the businesses from going bankrupt. But will the net variation of this traditional game present a salvation, or might it never compare to its real life opposite?
Bingo has been an age old game normally played by the "blue haired" generation. However the game lately had witnessed a recent resurgence in appeal with younger members of society opting to go to the bingo parlours instead of the clubs on a Friday night. All this is about to be destroyed with the legislating of the anti smoking law throughout UK.
Players will no longer be allowed to smoke at the same time marking numbers. Starting in the summer of ‘07 every public area will no longer be allowed to permit cigarettes in their locations and this includes Bingo parlors, one of the most favored areas where folks enjoy smoking.
The results of the cigarette ban can already be observed in Scotland where cigarettes are already not permitted in the bingo halls. Numbers have plunged and the industry is literally struggling for to stay alive. But where have all the players gone? Of course they haven’t deserted this age old game?
The answer is online. Players know that they can wager on bingo using their computer while enjoying a cocktail and cig and in the end, enjoy huge prizes. This is a recent phenomenon and has happened just about perfectly with the ban on smoking.
Of course betting on on the net is unlikely to replace the social portion of heading down to the bingo parlor, but for a group of people the governing edicts have left many bingo players with little alternative.
