Could the Cigarette Ban in Britain Take Bingo Enthusiasts On to the Net?

[ English ]

A lot has been talked in the press just a while ago about the bingo industry being hurt as a result of the smoking ban in England. Things have become so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has asked for massive tax breaks to assist in keeping the businesses from going bankrupt. However does the online adaptation of this traditional game present a salvation, or might it not compare to its land based relative?

Bingo has been an classic game normally played by the "blue haired" generation. Although the game lately had experienced a recent comeback in popularity with younger men and women deciding to visit the bingo parlors instead of the clubs on a weekend. This is all about to get flipped on its head with the enacting of the anti smoking law throughout England and Wales.

Players will no longer be permitted to smoke whilst dabbing numbers. From the summer of 2007 all public places will not be permitted to allow smoking in their locations and this includes Bingo parlours, which are possibly the most favored places where many people enjoy smoking.

The results of the smoking ban can already be seen in Scotland where smoking is already prohibited in the bingo parlours. Players have plummeted and the industry is beyond a doubt fighting for its life. But where did the players go? Certainly they have not abandoned this ancient game?

The answer is on the internet. Gamblers realise that they can enjoy bingo using their computer at the same time enjoying a drink and smoke and still have a chance at huge cash rewards. This is a recent anomaly and has happened bordering on perfect with the anti cigarette law.

Of course betting on on the web can never replace the communal portion of going over to the bingo parlor, but for a group of people the law has left a lot of bingo enthusiasts with little alternative.
