A lot has been reported in the papers not long ago about the bingo industry singing the blues as a consequence of the cigarette ban in Britain. Conditions have grown so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has called for big aid to help keep the industry from going bankrupt. However can the net version of this classic game present a escape, or might it not compare to its real life kin?

Bingo has been an enduring game generally played by the "blue rinse" generation. Although the game of late had experienced a recent comeback in popularity with younger members of society opting to hit the bingo parlors in place of the clubs on a Saturday night. All this is about to get flipped on its head with the enforcement of the anti cigarette law throughout Britain.

No longer will enthusiasts be able to smoke whilst marking off their numbers. Beginning in the summer of ‘07 all public areas will no longer be allowed to permit smoking in their venues and this includes Bingo parlors, one of the most common places where many people enjoy smoking.

The outcome of the anti cigarette law can already be felt in Scotland where smoking is already not permitted in the bingo parlours. Numbers have plunged and the business is beyond a doubt fighting for its life. But where did all the players go? Obviously they haven’t deserted this age old game?

The answer is on the internet. Players are now realizing that they can enjoy bingo from their computer while enjoying a beer and smoke and in the end, enjoy big jackpots. This is a recent development and has happened almost perfectly with the anti cigarette law.

Of course wagering on on the net could never replace the communal part of going down to the bingo parlour, but for a group of people the rules have left a good many bingo enthusiasts with little option.
