Bingo in New Mexico

New Mexico has a rocky gaming history. When the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act was signed by Congress in 1989, it seemed like New Mexico might be one of the states to cash in on the Indian casino craze. Politics assured that wouldn’t be the case.

The New Mexico governor Bruce King appointed a task force in 1990 to draft a compact with New Mexico Amerindian bands. When the panel came to an accord with 2 big local bands a year later, Governor King declined to sign the agreement. He held up a deal until Nineteen Ninety Four.

When a new governor took office in 1995, it appeared that Native gaming in New Mexico was now a certainty. But when Governor Gary Johnson passed the compact with the Native tribes, anti-wagering forces were able to tie the contract up in courts. A New Mexico court found that Governor Johnson had out stepped his bounds in signing a deal, therefore denying the government of New Mexico many hundreds of thousands of dollars in licensing fees over the next several years.

It required the Compact Negotiation Act, passed by the New Mexico legislature, to get the process moving on a full accord between the State of New Mexico and its Native bands. 10 years had been lost for gambling in New Mexico, including Native casino Bingo.

The non-profit Bingo industry has gotten bigger from Nineteen Ninety-Nine. In that year, New Mexico charity game owners brought in just $3,048 in revenues. That climbed to $725,150 in 2000, and surpassed a million dollars in 2001. Nonprofit Bingo earnings have increased constantly since then. Two Thousand and Five saw the greatest year, with $1,233,289 earned by the owners.

Bingo is certainly beloved in New Mexico. All sorts of providers look for a slice of the pie. Hopefully, the politicos are through batting over gambling as a hot button issue like they did in the 1990’s. That is probably hopeful thinking.

Can the Cigarette Ban in England Drive Bingo Players On to the Net?

A lot has been written in the press not long ago concerning the bingo industry struggling because of the anti cigarette law in the UK. Things have become so awful that in Scotland the Bingo industry has asked for massive aid to assist in keeping the industry alive. However does the internet adaptation of this quintessential game offer a reprieve, or will it not compare to its land based kin?

Bingo has been an familiar game historically enjoyed by the "blue rinse" generation. However the game of late had experienced a recent resurgence in appeal with younger people opting to hit the bingo halls in place of the discos on a Friday night. All this is about to change with the introduction of the anti smoking law throughout England and Wales.

No longer will players be allowed to puff on cigarettes at the same time dabbing numbers. From the summer of 2007 every public location will no longer be allowed to permit cigarettes in their locations and this includes Bingo parlours, which are possibly the most common locations where players enjoy smoking.

The results of the cigarette ban can already be felt in Scotland where cigarettes are already forbidden in the bingo parlors. Numbers have plunged and the industry is absolutely struggling for its life. But where did all the players go? Of course they have not abandoned this enduring game?

The answer is online. Players realize that they can wager on bingo using their computer at the same time enjoying a beer and fag and in the end, have a chance at massive cash rewards. This is a recent development and has happened almost perfectly with the ban on smoking.

Of course gambling on online could never replace the communal part of going down to the bingo parlor, but for a group of people the rules have left a good many bingo enthusiasts with no option.
